| Richard Perry recently had a show of his relief sculptures at the Cape Museum of Fine Art. He has been working on his unusual technique for over 30 years; he uses light and shadow in the manner of the ancient Egyptians who realized an optical illusion whereby an inward cut curve could look like an outward sculpted one. As one looks long and hard at Richard's forms, the lines change and move forward. This is what Richard has perfected in his relief sculpture. These are scooped out, but when we look, we see a 3 dimensional effect, rounded and real. | |||||
