BROOKS
KELLY is a well-known New England artist who has attained the prestigious status
of Copley Society Master Artist. His paintings are a blend of collage and acrylic
painting. He often mixes humor with complicated and creative composition.
Building on a tradition made famous by Picasso and Braque, Brooks Kelly works "found objects" such as ticket stubs, stamps, lace or even beach sand into the canvas and uses these "little pieces of life" to add texture, define a space or to embolden a line. In his paintings, space is very well-defined, complex and interesting, alongside obvious and enjoyable aspects of his work. Early on, Brooks Kelly was a cartoonist for the Cape Cod Times. He has multiple art awards to his name and is respected for his figure work and for his unique use of collage. This is his third year with Art House Gallery. "When
working in collage, I try to create subtle secondary patterns which enhance the
primary composition." |
